"Demand Saver" Program
Members installing electric water heaters under our "Demand Saver" program will receive a $3.50 monthly credit for allowing us to control their water heater during peak times. Additionally, service work on water heaters installed under this program, performed by us during normal working hours, will be performed on a NO CHARGE basis. Members will be charged for parts ONLY.
During periods of peak energy consumption radio signals are transmitted from our power supplier, Dairyland Power Cooperative in La Crosse, WI, to the thousands of individual radio receivers located at members' homes and businesses throughout the system. These radio receivers turn off power to your water heater during these "peak" periods and turn it on after the period of peak energy use is over. The Cooperative furnishes and installs the radio receiver.
New water heaters installed under this program must be a minimum capacity of 80 gallons and will be controlled under Strategy 1B for a maximum of 6 hours in a 10-hour period of time. Load control could occur at any time. Water heaters are not controlled every day, there are even months throughout the year that they are not controlled. The days that water heaters are controlled, you may experience one or perhaps two control periods. They would typically be sometime between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and noon and 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
New water heaters may be purchased from the cooperative at a 50 percent discount. Replacement water heaters that are currently under control may also be purchased at a 50 percent discount. Members with existing electric water heaters may enroll in the "Demand Saver" Program if their water heater is a minimum of 80 gallons. These will be controlled under either Strategy 1A (4 hours in 10) or 1B (6 hours in 10), dependent on the size of the water heater.
Dual Fuel Program
Members who have electric heat as their primary source of heat and have an alternative fuel as backup currently have "Dual Fuel". You may also purchase electric water heaters from the cooperative at a 50 percent discount. New water heaters installed under this program must be a minimum capacity of 80 gallons.
Your Dual Fuel system is metered separately and a radio receiver is attached to receive the signal from our power supplier.
Dual Fuel is normally controlled during the winter months, when the temperature drops. Control times are normally in the evening starting around 5:00 p.m. and being controlled until around 11:00 p.m. during the coldest weather. However, these loads may be controlled for extended periods of time.
If you install your water heater to this system it will be controlled during the same time periods as your Dual Fuel.
Your rate per kilowatt will also be the same as your Dual Fuel.
Water heaters installed under the Dual Fuel Program are eligible for the same service work policy as the "Demand Saver" Program.
Off-Peak Program
Members may purchase electric water heaters from the cooperative at a 60 percent discount. New water heaters installed under this program must be a minimum of 100 gallons or a combination thereof. This program does require a separate meter and receiver.
Loads controlled under this program are controlled 14 hours each day. Off-Peak means the power is off during normal daytime hours, and on late night hours. Power is on for 10 hours and off for 14 hours in a 24-hour period of time, everyday.
Water heaters installed under the Off-Peak Program are eligible for the same service work policy as the "Demand Saver" Program.
