How do I read a meter?
Read your meter on the 20th of each month...your electric meter looks like this:
To obtain a meter reading, simply write the numbers as they appear on the front
of the meter, starting with the left most number and continuing to the right.
Repeat this step for each meter at your location. Record the reading, along with
the date you read the meter (preferably the 20th of each month) in the space
provided on the payment stub or the on-line form. Meter readings may also be
phoned into our office, 24-hours a day. Remember to include your account number
when phoning in. If you have more than one meter at your location, be sure to
match the reading to the correct account number or meter number as listed on the
payment stub.
Reading your meter on the same day each month avoids fluctuations on your bill from one month to the next. A good time to read the meter is right after your electric statement arriveson or around the 20th of each month. To avoid estimated readings and late charges, be sure to mail your payment and meter readings by the end of each month. On-line readings must be received by the end of each month.
You can measure the amount of energy you have used for a day, week or month by subtracting your first reading from your last reading. The dollar amount of your bill is based on the number of kilowatt hours used.
