It all started in 1935, when a handful of farmers expressed an interest in wanting the convenience of electricity on their farms. When these farmers ran into skeptics they remained undaunted. In the face of discouragement, they helped write one of the most smashing success stories of the nation. Through their efforts, they have eliminated backbreaking farm labor, made the rural home a pleasant place in which to live, and boosted the farmer's efficiency to heights that were undreamed of years ago.
On December 9, 1935, the first Articles of Corporation were signed establishing People's Cooperative Power Association, now People's Cooperative Services. People's Cooperative Services is a member owned not for profit cooperative. On behalf of the People's Cooperative Services Board of Directors, employees, and its members we would like to welcome you and your family. People's Cooperative Services is an active member of the local communities; committed to providing quality electric service to all member/owners. Today rural/suburban people in the vicinity of Rochester take two important organizations for granted. One is the world famous Mayo Clinic with its medical specialists and staff of thousands. The other is People's Cooperative Services serving more than 17,000 homes and businesses in Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, Wabasha, Winona, and Mower counties in Southeastern Minnesota. Take away either of these two service organizations and there would be a storm of protest.

People's is one of 25 distribution cooperatives that own Dairyland Power, which provides service to Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
